Construction
When you’re staring at a wall that shouldn’t be wet or a kitchen that hasn’t worked since 1987, you don’t need a national “solutions provider.” You need somebody who answers the phone, shows up when he says he will, and puts his actual name on the permit. Barrett & Sons Construction has been that somebody here since 1998. Tom Barrett and his sons pull every permit, write every change order, and back every job with a 90-Day Done Right Promise you can read in plain English. One call brings Tom back. That’s the Locally difference.
What’s Included
Barrett & Sons handles the full range of residential construction and remodeling, from emergency repairs to ground-up additions. Here’s what Tom’s crews do most often:
Kitchen Remodeling
We design and build kitchens around how you actually cook, not how a magazine thinks you should live. Tom’s crews install KraftMaid cabinetry and Cambria quartz surfaces, and every plumbing and electrical permit gets pulled before demolition starts. In older homes, we regularly find knob-and-tube remnants tucked behind soffits; we flag it in writing and fix it properly rather than burying it for the next owner to discover.
Bathroom Renovation
From powder-room updates to full master baths with curbless showers, we handle waterproofing, tile, plumbing, and ventilation as one scope. Tom specifies Schluter or Wedi shower systems, not bargain liners, because a bathroom that leaks in three years is a bathroom we have to come back and tear apart. And Tom comes back for free if it’s our fault.
Roofing
We install GAF and CertainTeed asphalt systems, plus standing-seam metal where the house calls for it. Every roof gets a written decking inspection; we photograph what we find and show you before we quote the repair. In our climate, improper attic ventilation destroys shingles from underneath; we calculate intake and exhaust by the numbers, not by eye.
Window and Door Replacement
Andersen and Marvin products, flashed and sealed to manufacturer’s spec, not caulked over and hoped for. We measure twice, order once, and if the rough opening has settled out of square, we reframe it rather than forcing a square window into a crooked hole. You’ll feel the difference in January.
Decks, Patios, and Hardscapes
Belgard and Techo-Bloc pavers, pressure-treated or composite decking, and retaining walls engineered for the soil we have here, not the soil they have in the catalog photo. We call for utility locates before we dig, and we pull permits on anything over 30 inches high.
Room Additions and Garage Builds
Foundation to finish, including tie-ins to existing HVAC and electrical. Tom coordinates the structural engineer, the inspector, and the subs himself; you’re not chasing five phone numbers. Every addition gets a written scope, a fixed allowance schedule, and change orders in writing before the lumber gets cut.
Emergency Repairs
Storm damage, sudden leaks, structural failures from rot or impact. Calls are answered live 24 hours, and Tom or one of his sons will be on-site to tarp, brace, or seal until permanent repairs can be scheduled and priced properly.
Why Homeowners Choose the Locally Family
Locally started with a complaint, not a business plan. In 1997 a retired county extension agent named Ward Selby kept hearing the same story: somebody called a number off a listing, a truck with out-of-state plates showed up, the quote at the door was triple the quote on the phone, and by the time anything went wrong the number had stopped working. So Ward wrote down what a homeowner could actually verify in five minutes: a local phone number that a person answers, an address you can drive to, the owner’s name and face, and a license number you can look up. Any company that would publish all four could carry his name. That list is still the entire standard.
Barrett & Sons Construction met that standard in 1998 and still does. Tom Barrett publishes his name, his address, and his license number; look it up before you sign anything. His sons run the crews, his trucks carry his name, and he’s going to run into you at the hardware store on Saturday, which is the oldest accountability mechanism there is. The 90-Day Done Right Promise is written on every contract, not buried in fine print: if it’s not done right, Tom comes back and makes it right, one call. Every scope, every allowance, every price change arrives as a written change order before work happens, because the allowance that isn’t on paper is a surprise waiting for a date. Permits get pulled and inspections get signed on every eligible job, because the last contractor most of our customers used told them permits were optional. We hire here, we buy here, and we would rather keep you for twenty years than win one big ticket. That’s the L.O.C.A.L. code: Local roots, On time, Community first, Accountable, Loyal. It’s not a slogan. It’s how Tom has worked since 1998.
Frequently Asked Questions
Calls are answered by a live person 24 hours a day, not a voicemail box or an out-of-state call center. For true emergencies, storm damage, sudden leaks, or structural failures, Tom or one of his sons will be on-site to secure the property the same day. Call us at the number above and we’ll give you a real arrival window.
Barrett & Sons Construction is based right here in the county, not dispatched from a hub three states away. Tom lives twenty minutes from most of his customers, and his sons grew up in the schools your kids probably attended. We work within a reasonable radius of our published address; call and we’ll tell you honestly if you’re in our territory or if we know a local guy we trust who is closer.
Every job starts with a written scope and a fixed price for that scope. If we find something unexpected, or if you want to change something, you get a written change order with a new price before any additional work happens. Tom’s rule is simple: the allowance that isn’t on paper is a surprise waiting for a date. No surprise invoices, no “oh by the way” conversations after the drywall is closed up.
It’s a written guarantee on every construction and remodeling job, not fine print or a verbal “yeah, we’ll take care of it.” If something we built or installed isn’t done right, Tom comes back and makes it right, one call. The promise is stamped on your contract, and Tom’s cell number is on the truck. Ask anyone on your street who’s used us; they’ll tell you he answers.
